How Haley turned her archive into a video offering overnight

Rendy Spotlight: Haley Hill

Haley Hill has been running Haley Hill Photography since 2018 (haleyhillphotography.com) — commercial architecture and interiors across San Diego, Phoenix, the Bay Area, and Tucson. Around 50 large projects a year, mostly solo.

She didn't launch video with a new package. She started by giving it away.

"I took past projects I'd already shot for my top clients, ran them through Rendy, and sent them over with no ask attached." The results came back immediately. One client asked if she could run Rendy on a project Haley didn't even shoot. The cinematic reel is now built into her two higher tier packages and available as an add-on on her entry level. The pitch is simple — clients who want video for social and their websites don't need to hire a separate video team. They just hire Haley. It's also changed how she shows up on social. "People watch my reels and assume I added video to my services, and I get to tell them — nope, those are just the photos. Also, you just can't be relevant on social media if you aren't posting videos." Her advice to photographers sitting on a hard drive full of shoots? "You already shot the project, and those clips are sitting on a drive not doing anything yet — so make them make you extra money." See my full convo with Haley below 🙂

Our full conversation with Haley Hill

Q: Tell us about your background — how many shoots do you handle and what does your team look like?

I'm mostly a one woman show, me plus my editor and a couple of contractors. I shoot commercial architecture and interiors for AEC firms, hospitality groups, and developers across San Diego, Phoenix, the Bay Area, and Tucson, around 50 projects a year. I've been running Haley Hill Photography since 2018.

Q: How do you add Rendy — is it an upsell or built in? How do you position it?

The cinematic reel is built into my two higher tier packages, and it's an add-on on my entry level one. I position it as a way to get video without hiring a video team. My clients want videos for social and their websites, so they can get it all in one place by hiring me.

Q: What results have you seen — any impact on revenue, client reactions, biggest win?

I'm still early on the revenue side, so I started by just giving it away. I took past projects I'd already shot for my top clients, ran them through Rendy, and sent them over with no ask attached. People immediately see the value once they see their own building moving. One client came back and asked if I could do it for a project I didn't even shoot, which I thought was pretty cool. It's been great for my own social too. People watch my reels and assume I added video to my services, and I get to tell them nope, those are just the photos, I turned them into clips. Also, you just can't be relevant on social media if you aren't posting videos.

Q: What advice would you give to someone who isn’t using Rendy yet? How should they start?

You already shot the project, and those clips are sitting on a drive not doing anything yet — so make them make you extra money. If I were restarting today, I would make sure I shoot verticals of each space so that I always have a vertical photo that can become a vertical reel.
